Our Outdoor Environment

Encouraging exploration, movement and connection

🌿 Outdoor Play at Bindook Cottage

Outdoor play is an important part of children’s learning and wellbeing at Bindook Cottage.

Our outdoor environment provides opportunities for children to explore, move and develop confidence through active play. Children are encouraged to investigate their surroundings, engage in imaginative play and build important physical and social skills.

Through outdoor experiences, children develop coordination, problem-solving abilities and a connection with the natural environment.

🌿 Why Outdoor Learning Matters

Outdoor learning plays an important role in supporting children’s health, wellbeing and development.

Through outdoor play, children develop physical skills, build confidence and explore the natural world around them. Experiences outdoors encourage curiosity, creativity and problem-solving while allowing children to move freely and engage with their environment.

These opportunities help children develop a connection with nature and support their overall learning and wellbeing.

Outdoor Learning Experiences

Outdoor play provides children with opportunities to develop their physical skills through active movement and exploration.

At Bindook Cottage we participate in the Munch & Move program, which supports children in developing healthy habits and physical skills through regular movement experiences.

Each month children explore different Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) such as running, jumping, throwing, catching and balancing. These activities help build coordination, confidence and strength while encouraging children to enjoy being active.

Through these experiences, children develop important physical skills that support their overall health, wellbeing and development.

Outdoor spaces provide children with opportunities to play together, build friendships and develop important social skills.

Through group games, shared play experiences and imaginative adventures, children learn to communicate, cooperate and explore their ideas with others. The outdoor environment encourages children to create their own games and stories while working together with their peers.

These experiences support creativity, collaboration and confidence in social interactions.

Children have opportunities to explore and care for our garden and growing orchard.

Through these experiences, children learn where food comes from while participating in watering plants, observing growth and exploring natural materials.

Our outdoor environment includes First Nations plants which provide opportunities for children to learn about native plants and their connection to the land.

Through these experiences, children begin developing an appreciation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives and caring for Country.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Our outdoor environment provides children with meaningful opportunities to explore, move and discover while supporting their confidence, wellbeing and development.
