Peacock Street has three rooms within the centre
- The Butterfly room caters for children aged 2-3 years
- The Dolphin room caters for children aged 3-4 years
- The Seagull room caters for children aged 4-6 years
The Butterfly Room
The Butterfly room provides activities to promote exploration and essential learning. Educators observe the children performing tasks. Then by assisting, encouraging and modelling staff members can prevent a lot of the frustration young children experience in their effort to learn. Activities include painting, pasting, role-play, music and movement etc. Planned and spontaneous experiences promote the development of each child.
Dolphin Room
The Dolphin room is where friendships continue to develop along with their social, emotional, language, cognitive and creative skills. Pre-academic skills are introduced in the Dolphin room. This will assist them in their transition to the Seagull Room. Children are offered various experiences that promote self-esteem and confidence in their own ability. This allows each child the confidence to attempt tasks, activities and experiences presented to them. Experiences provided are interest and developmentally based. Educators incorporate family, children and professional advice into room programs.
The Seagull Room
The Seagull room consists of a full pre-school program within long day care hours. It is our intent to assist with the overall development of every child and to assist and prepare children for the transition to school from the centre. The curriculum includes; literacy skills, numeracy skills, creative skills, social skills, self-help and cognitive skills etc. Planned experiences are designed to take into account the individual differences of each child and are based on the developmental needs, interests and experiences of each child. We also feel that it is of the utmost importance that all children are encouraged to explore, play, create and develop at their own pace.
School Readiness
To assist with the emergence of autonomy and in preparation for the transition to school, we use a ‘scaffold learning’ approach where educators are able to enhance the overall child’s development. Each child and family are valued as unique individuals and planned according to individual needs and preferences.
